RAW-Gelände II
Susanna JergerBorn in 1975, artist Susanna Jerger studied fine arts in Nuremberg and film in Karlsruhe. Her paintings reflect her fascination for the melancholy of urban landscapes. She captures quiet moments in the eastern part of Berlin, revealing the transient character of specific places. Buildings covered with graffiti are spotlighted in her work – many of these have since disappeared due to gentrification and urban development.
For LOVE LETTERS TO THE CITY, Jerger created a new work: RAW-Gelände II. It shows the crumbling walls of the RAW premises, a former rail yard built in 1867 which is now home to one of Berlin’s last independent socio-cultural centers. This constantly changing place is still alive with culture, acting as a huge canvas for urban art. It’s only a matter of time, however, before gentrification puts an end to this lively community space.
