Magistratsweg 10
Jumu Monster
In September 2025, internationally renowned artist Jumu Monster will create a 50-meter-high mural at Magistratsweg 10, dedicated to the favorite places of residents in Heerstraße Nord. This portrait of the neighborhood tells a vivid visual story of urban diversity, everyday life, and community.
The project is part of the exhibition “Love Letters to the City” at the URBAN NATION Museum. Its aim is to showcase the city as a lived space—through the eyes of those who shape it every day. In one of Berlin’s largest participatory street art projects, over 450 residents responded to the question: “What’s your favorite place and what do you like to do there?” The answers revealed a layered picture of identity and quality of life. Popular responses included: personal balconies with green views, the Jonny K. Activity Park, Hahneberg, soccer fields, playgrounds, as well as schools, kindergartens, and the Staaken Center as vital community hubs.
Jumu Monster transforms this diversity into a rich visual narrative: At the bottom of the mural, the Planet Playground with its iconic sun slide makes an appearance. An abstract sun, held by a protective hand, represents community and care—the power that carries childhood dreams. Behind it, the silhouette of Hahneberg emerges, a familiar place of calm and nature.
Two women in a heartfelt embrace symbolize closeness and mutual support. The chestnut leaf in one of their hands references the tree-lined avenues of the neighborhood, while a rainbow stands for openness, diversity, and connection—such as that found in the PI Café, a space for women to meet and share. A boy with a soccer ball represents the popular neighborhood playing fields. An elderly man watches him from his balcony—an image of intergenerational perspective and urban coexistence. Higher up, a girl glides through the neighborhood on her skateboard—full of energy and confidence. Behind her, the skyline of Staaken unfolds—a cityscape woven between housing blocks and treetops.
Back in May 2025, a Community Wall was created at Maulbeerallee 31 as a preparation for the project—designed in collaboration with children from the Christian Morgenstern Elementary School. This colorful, graphically stylized piece combines elements of comic art, pop art, and symbolic iconography—just like ONE WALL—and marked the beginning of a dialogue with the local community.
Continuing this focus on participation, ONE WALL at Magistratsweg 10 by Jumu Monster becomes a visual archive of collective memory, a manifesto of inclusion, and an artistic love letter to a neighborhood actively shaping its own future.
