Stipan Tadić was born in Zagreb in 1986, and currently lives in New York City. He grew up in Austria and is inspired by art forms such as Expressionism, Dadaism, and Croatian Social Realism. The politically charged expressions and anti-war notions found in these influences strongly resonate with his own views and works.

In his paintings, he explores the city by night and the idea of cities as dreamlike environments that each retain their visual identity. Humor and nostalgia, his fascination with nightlife, and the aspects of human nature that emerge after dark form the basis of his creative process. He is captivated by the transition from day to night, especially in his adopted hometown of New York with its “retro dystopian” aesthetic and electric lights. For the artist, the changing light conditions reveal different dimensions of the city.
