Streethouse Unlimited: Reinickendorf, 2025

Documentation of the project at Schluchseestraße 46, Berlin Reinickendorf

As part of the Stadtraum!Plus program, a site-specific mural was created in collaboration with the Berliner Leben Foundation and Gewobag. The "Streethouse Unlimited" project focuses on the artistic design of the Streethouse youth club's façade. Hannes Höhlig aka AGE AGE is the artist responsible for the design. His concept highlights the club's identity, diversity, and unique sense of community. AGE AGE held a workshop with local children and young people to generate ideas for the mural's motifs.

Samy is the youth club manager and a central figure in Streethouse because of his constant presence and active role. He is represented by the "Super Sami Robot." The robot has many arms, symbolizing the various employees and the different activities and functions of the youth club. These range from everyday activities, such as eating pizza and playing table tennis and football, to protective and supportive gestures. One arm lifts a dumbbell bearing the word "Family," representing the meeting place's role in fostering social cohesion among visitors of all ages and backgrounds. The background of the design features an urban skyline with houses and high-rise buildings that refer to the surrounding neighborhood. Many of the buildings have friendly faces, and two of them are depicted hugging each other to symbolize strong togetherness and a positive neighborly climate.

In terms of color, red tones dominate the spectrum, based on the new background of the façade. Accents in bright green provide targeted contrasts, lending the overall picture a forward-looking, energetic mood. This modern color scheme contrasts with the building's existing, rather simple and restrained architecture.

Around ten young people participated in the project, working with great enthusiasm on the artwork. The result is impressive, and the Streethouse has been significantly upgraded. To conclude the event, the mural project participants prepared food for everyone. There was a relaxed atmosphere for barbecuing, hanging out, and strengthening friendships. The project demonstrates how participatory design can promote community, creativity, and diversity — in the spirit of "Streethouse Unlimited."
