Stiftung Berliner Mauer

The Berlin Wall Foundation was established in 2008 to commemorate the division of Berlin. It is currently responsible for six historical sites, including the Berlin Wall Memorial, the East Side Gallery, the Marienfelde Refugee Center Museum and the future “Forum Checkpoint Charlie.” The memorial sites grew out of civic engagement, the cornerstone of the Berlin Wall Foundation’s work.

At these sites, the foundation preserves the architectural remains and the physical legacy of the division of Berlin and makes aspects of Cold War history accessible to present and future generations alike. A central part of its mandate is to remember the victims. The charitable foundation implements this mandate with exhibitions, educational programs, research, and work with contemporary witnesses – for an open, democratic, and united society.
